"Donna Reed, star of ABC-TV’s 'The Donna Reed Show,' thinks the term 'working mother' is ridiculously redundant. 'Anyone ever hear of a non-working mother?' she asks." This 1963 report from ABC-TV is the source of the oft-quoted truism, "The phrase 'working mother' is redundant." After having her first child this year, Hungary's Georgina Póta (pictured, left) can now attest to its veracity first-hand. Póta, 35, is ranked #53 in the world. Although five years removed from her peak ranking of #14, she still tops the women's rankings in Hungary. After a decade of success playing in Germany for the TTC Berlin Eastside club, Póta is now settling down back in her homeland. On June 1st, Póta welcomed her baby Regina to the world. With help from longtime Hungarian teammate and fellow mother Petra Lovas (pictured, right), on Monday Póta conducted her first practice since the new queen Regina was born. "Luckily, she slept through the workout," Póta said before thanking her friend Lovas. “I had help, her pram was pushed in the room, but she is a good baby, anyway." For Lovas, 40, it was simply a matter of repaying a karmic debt to Póta. "She also accompanied me during my pregnancy and my life with a toddler," she related, "and I accompanied her during her pregnancy so we could help each other." Keeping up the busy week, Póta then signed with new club SH-ITB Budaörs Sport Club on Tuesday. "I am glad to be able to play in Budaörs-jersey because it is a professional club in which I can imagine my future," said Póta. "With the team, we want to win the Hungarian championship and get as far as possible on the international field." Póta must now learn how to juggle the twin demands of a career and a family. "First, I must get back in my shape again, and it is also a question of who will be able to take care of Regina, so it is a matter of organization as well," Póta explains. Like her friends Petra Lovas before her, Georgina Póta has now joined the many billions of women who have proven that the phrase "working mother" was generated at the Department of Redundancy Department. You can say that again.
