"If you can dream it, you can stream it." So promises Switcher Studios, the live video pioneers with offices in Kentucky and Switzerland. Founded in 2014, Switcher "helps creators and companies produce stunning, polished live shows with the devices they already owned... letting creators switch angles, edit live, and stream anywhere," as per their website. Switcher's profile rose meteorically as they partnered with Facebook Live. Seemingly overnight, "livestream" entered the popular lexicon as both a noun and a verb. When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the sports world in 2020, USA Table Tennis (USATT) looked for a way to broadcast elite competition in a responsible manner. The result was the T2 Challenge, a virtual tournament broadcast weekly via Switcher. In addition to showcasing some of the nation's top table tennis talent, the livestreams featured not one but two commentators narrating the action from the safety of their respective homes. US Olympian Sean O'Neill worked with Switcher as a commentator for the inaugural T2 Challenge last summer. The veteran commentator has covered table tennis for ESPN, NBC Sports and other world-class broadcasters, so his opinion carries a great deal of weight. "Switcher provided the perfect solution for our live video production needs," says O'Neill. "I’ve been fortunate in my career to be involved in a number of extremely high-end television broadcasts of elite level table tennis matches, and our goal was to recreate that experience at a cost that made sense for our organization. We’ve found that the Switcher product... allowed us to accomplish this goal." On the heels of this successful trial came plans for a second season of the T2 Challenge. For USATT CEO Virginia Sung, Switcher was the obvious choice. "We’re thrilled to expand our relationship with Switcher so we can continue to improve the quality of our live video production of our special tournaments and events," says Sung. "We were extremely pleased with all aspects of this software during the production of season one of our T2 Challenge, and we look forward to leveraging Switcher in season two of that event — and many other table tennis events to come." The USATT dreamed it. Switcher Studios streamed it. How's that for truth in advertising?
