Fairy tale hero Jack (beanstalk sold separately) was known for chopping down giants. Sitcom superhero Henry Danger, well, has the word "Danger" in his name. The spirits of both fictional heroes are on a collision course at the WTT Star Contender in Doha, Qatar. The real-life embodiment of Henry Danger is Slovenia's 22-year-old Darko Jorgic (pictured, attacking), a two-winged attacker ranked 31st in the world. Jorgic has come back from deficits in both of his last two matches, only to prevail at deuce in the fifth. In the quarterfinals, Jorgic trailed Sweden's Kristian Karlsson, one game to two, only to rally and force a fifth game which he won 17-15. A round earlier, he knocked off second-seeded Hugo Calderano of Brazil after falling behind by two games and facing a match point in the third. Jorgic ultimately prevailed, 13-11 in the fifth. Comfortable wins are clearly not Jorgic's style; rather, he leads a life of (wait for it) danger. The part of Paul Bunyan will be played by Germany's 33-year-old defensive star Ruwen Filus (pictured, in his characteristically defensive position), who has been chopping down giants right and left as of late. The world #42 Filus has defied the odds to reach the semifinals. In his wake lie such slain Brobdingnagians as South Korea's Jang Woojin (world ranking #12), Japan's Jun Mizutani (WR #18) and Chinese Taipei's Lin Yun-Ju (WR #6). Meanwhile, in the top half of the draw, a rematch of last week's WTT Contender semifinal awaits. Top seed Tomokazu Harimoto of Japan looks to avenge his loss to champion-elect Dimitrij Ovtcharov of Germany. Whoever wins will face either a giant-slaying chopper or an escape artist who thrives on danger. May the best man, fairy tale boy or sitcom superhero win!
