Good help, as they say, is hard to find. Luckily for the ITTF Foundation, this is not the case. As the do-gooder arm of the International Table Tennis Federation, the foundation has organized countless missions around the world using table tennis to promote humanitarian causes. Now, the ITTF Foundation has a new Programmes Coordinator who has been doing exactly that for decades. Meet Ramón Ortega Montes (pictured). He is known as Moncho to his friends, of whom he has many from years of work promoting table tennis in El Salvador as president of Fundación Segundo y Santiago Montes. Working in the impoverished municipality of Meanguera, paddle in hand, Ortega Montes has systematically built up the infrastructure over the years. At first, the goal was to pipe in clean water. Now he is building a university. Ten years ago, his talents caught the attention of the ITTF. Working for the agency's departments of Development and Education, Ortega Montes has expanded his reach globally. Thanks to his tireless efforts, numerous schools now include table tennis in their physical education programs. Now, in his new position as Programmes Coordinator, Ortega Montes will further expand his global outreach to include the Parkinson’s World Table Tennis Championships and Dream Building Fund, among many other projects no doubt already in the works. "This is a great opportunity to be working with my two greatest passions," says Ortega Montes. "I have been involved with table tennis since I was 17 years old, and helped people to reach their full potential. I’ve been more directly involved with social development through my foundation since 2011, always with that motu proprio, helping and supporting people." As Ramón Ortega Montes amply demonstrates, good help is not hard to find. The hard thing, it seems, would be to find better help.
