You've already seen the commercials. Every two years, the United States and Europe send their greatest warriors as tribute for an epic battle. No, it's not the Hunger Games, but a battle for survival every bit at ruthless: The Ryder Cup. Although the US dominated the early years of the biennial golf war, Europe has won 10 of the last 12 editions. Now, after the 2020 edition was postponed due to the pandemic, the world's top golfers are sharpening their wedges for this weekend's long-awaited grudge match. One key element of success which could help the US team turn it around is camaraderie. Over time, table tennis has become a tradition in the US team's clubhouse. Tiger Woods (pictured) and Phil Mickelson had epic battles over the years. Other American stars like Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed and Bryson De Chambeau have maintained the tradition. "There’s something about the hand-eye coordination and the competitive drive," said Stewart Cink. "I don’t know, golfers and ping-pong, they just go together." This weekend, we will see if Team USA's extra year of extracurricular practice in spin, speed and placement will spell a return to bygone glory.
