"If you don't vote," said the late, great comedian George Carlin, "you lose the right to complain." Whether or not they have exercised their democratic rights, many have complained about the dysfunction which has run rampant at USA Table Tennis (USATT) over the years. Last year, the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) told USATT in no uncertain terms to replace the entire Board of Directors or lose their Olympic charter. Now that new USATT CEO Virginia Sung has cleaned house, there remains the work of rebuilding some semblance of a functional Board of Directors. Toward this end, USATT will hold elections for three positions: two At-Large Director seats and one for Club Director. Throwing their hats in the ring for the At-Large Director positions are Thomas Hu, Lee Kondo, Khoa Nguyen and Dan Reynolds. For the Club Director position, USATT members will choose between Michael Babuin and Will Shortz. Voting is open from October 29 to December 13. Statements of interest from each candidate are available via the link below. As the national governing body for table tennis undergoes its most significant changes in generations, or perhaps ever, it is imperative that we, the people, make our voices heard. Unless, of course, you have no reason to complain.
