You heard it here first, folks: Kenny Markanich is a superhero. Consider the evidence. By day, Markanich is a CEO of an apparel company. By night, he trains to improve his already considerable mastery of Wadō-ryū karate, in which he holds a seventh-degree black belt. Do you know who else runs a corporation by day and does martial arts at night? That's right, Batman. Case closed. While Markanich waits for DC and Marvel to pitch their origin stories, he stays sharp playing at the Nashville Tennis Table Club. He further refines his reflexes with a Newgy Robo-Pong table tennis robot at home. “It looks like I’ve walked out of a rainstorm when I finish,” admits Markanich. While karate and table tennis help Markanich, 63, to stay fit, he sees deeper parallels between the disciplines. “The quick reflexes you need in ping pong complement the sparring you do in karate,” says Markanich. “In the dojo or playing ping pong I need all senses engaged." Markanich seems to have found a harmonious balance in his multifaceted life. Meanwhile, the public is left to debate whether "PongMan" is a hero or a vigilante.
