Anyone who played Yoshihito Miyazaki in the 1980s will remember his befuddling backhand penhold serves, which would either dive into the net or pop up for an easy smash, all seemingly from the same motion. The 1988 Olympian was also a bronze medalist at the 1986 Asian games in men's singles and men's team events. In the ensuing decades, Miyazaki has served as the coach for the Japanese team, and currently as the Executive Director of the Japan Table Tennis Association. Miyazaki brings his decades of experience to the table as the new Technical Director of the T2 Asia-Pacific Table Tennis League, which features an innovative format and major prizes to attract the world's top players. With T2 hosting the new Diamond-Tier ITTF events in 2019, any kinks in the new format will have to be ironed out quickly. Not only will the best players in the world be fighting for the sport's richest purses, but the events will also provide players points to help qualify for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. With so much at stake, it is essential that the events run smoothly. Miyazaki is equal to the task, proclaiming “I am delighted to be able to use my extensive experience and knowledge both as a player and official to make table tennis more appealing to the new generation of consumers, and to help shape the future of table tennis.” More than three decades after playing in table tennis' Olympic debut, Miyazaki's impeccable service continues.
